Job Description

The House Majority Office is seeking a full-time Outreach Director.

The Outreach Director will work closely with each member of the House Democratic caucus and their staffers to help develop and implement district outreach plans, train and support Legislative staffers on a wide variety of issues, and support the overall goals of the Oregon House Democrats. The ideal candidate will have experience working as a legislative staffer and a proven ability to effectively manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. They will be detail-oriented, able to handle sensitive information professionally, and committed to getting results in a fast-paced environment.

The primary objective of the House Majority Office is to help each House Democrat best serve their constituents. We provide communications and policy support, and work to advance the caucus’s policy agenda. Job Responsibilities

• Assist caucus members in developing and implementing district outreach plans.

• Prepare sample constituent communications materials for caucus members, both upon request and anticipating needs before caucus members have them.

• Produce and implement a training program for new legislative staffers, and run regular LA caucus meetings to build relationships and provide professional development opportunities for legislative staffers.

• Be available to answer a wide variety of questions from members and legislative staffers promptly.

• Assist with a variety of logistics, such as ensuring members file their Statements of Economic Interest.

• Assist Communications and Legislative Directors with their work as needed.

• Work on other projects in consultation with the Chief of Staff as needed.

Skill Requirements

Qualifications 

  • Knowledge of current state legislative issues in Oregon, with preference for job experience that includes serving as a legislative staffer through a full legislative session.
  • A track record of building strong working relationships and managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Experience working as part of a team of professionals in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with elected officials and navigating a partisan environment.

Salary and Benefits

Benefits include a contribution toward the cost of health and dental insurance (95% or 99% depending on your plan selection); optional life and disability insurance programs; a paid retirement program for qualifying individuals; and paid vacation, holidays and sick leave. The monthly salary range is $3,973 to $5,853.
