Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY OBJECTIVES

Monitors, coordinates, directs and supervises the following groups to deliver high quality, efficient and effective services and achievement of objectives: 

Scheduling Services: 

  • Operation schedule, order release and Shop floor priority lists
  • Assess, balance and optimize operation loading
  • Lead Bi-weekly product Status mtgs
  • Delivery dates for new orders
  • Raw material management/ordering
  • Responds to relevant inquiries such as part status, inventory, WIP, etc.
  • Identifies labor needs to meet schedule

Objective Categories: OTD, Lead Time, WIP turns, FGs turns, production schedule/ priorities/ dispatch list accuracy, blanket order stocking level performance 

Programming Services:

  • Delivery of machining programs per schedule requirements
  • Establish and ensure conformance to programming standards
  • Retention, transfer and monitoring of programs

Objective Categories: new program lead time, programs quality (error rate, part quality, productivity) 

Tool Room Services:

  • Staging, pre-setting, delivery and return of tooling, fixtures, programs and paperwork for all Shop equipment
  • Order all tooling necessary for machine shop operation including new, standard and repair orders.
  • Coordinate repair and replacement of tools, fixtures and other Shop and facility supplies

Objective Categories: inventory accuracy, location/use tracking/condition assessment of all Shop fixtures and tools, OTD of tooling tooling/fixtures/ programs/paperwork to machining centers 

R&D Machinists Services:

  • Development and optimization of fixtures, programs, tooling and new methods to successfully and economically machine a variety of custom parts on various machining centers
  • Documentation and training of those who take on the developed processes.
  • Troubleshoot and support resolution of machining and quality problems
  • Support/take on rush order and special needs machining
  • Backfill critical work centers as conditions and priorities warrant

Objectives Categories: quality and productivity performance of new machining methods and equipment, lead time for release to production of new methods and new equipment, troubleshooting response time

Skill Requirements

SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS:

This position requires a strong background in finite capacity scheduling preferably in a job shop (high-mix/low-volume) environment.  Must be computer literate with a background/experience in scheduling, tool room operations, machining and programming.  Working knowledge of MS Excel and scheduling software.  Manual dexterity required.  Ability to work closely with others in a team environment required.

Strong supervisory skills are necessary to manage diverse groups in a dynamic and chaotic environment.  

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 5 years manufacturing, scheduling, and material/supplies management in a high mix/low volume manufacturing environment and 5 years of supervisory experience.  APICS certification preferred.
