Albertina Kerr strengthens Oregon families and communities by helping children and adults with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges - empowering them to live richer lives.

Kerr's day program, Port City, is looking for energetic, creative, and compassionate team players to help fill in for staff when they are out. This “floater” position will fill in between our Urban Farming Program, Our Art Program, our community activities program and on occasion, our afternoon program. This position is ideal for someone who transitions easily and can jump into new responsibilities with ease!

We provide a day services program to adults with developmental disabilities. We are dedicated to enriching the lives of the people we serve by offering an array of daily activities that center around skill-building through art making, movement, and urban farming; and include site seeing, community building, adventures, advocacy, dance parties and thrift shopping, just to name a few.

Our job title is a Direct Support Professional, and as such our primary objective is to provide support to the people we serve. This includes assistance to daily living tasks that can encompass helping people eat, supporting people with bath rooming needs, passing medication, driving people to and from locations, and supporting folks to navigate the intricacies of interpersonal relationships.

We are looking for someone who can use their creative practice and awareness as a tool to support the people we serve. We need people who have a personal passion and the excitement to share it. While your discerning eye for color (or form or movement or community or food) will certainly be appreciated, what we really want is people who have the ability to make connections and inspire others to engage.

We believe that all of the people we serve deserve the same opportunities that a neuro-typical and able-bodied person enjoys, and strive to provide services that ensure as many experiences as we can.

While a degree is not required for this position, we have found that an academic experience in the arts, farming or the social sciences supports our applicants' ability to transition into this field. However, folks without a degree who have a passion for advocacy for marginalized populations also move very fluidly into our program, as they have the institutional knowledge of working with such a diverse population.

Experience in the field of direct care is not required; for many of our amazing staff, this position opened up a new world of tapping into transferable skills.

People that excel in this position have a balanced and compassionate demeanor. They are creative problem solvers with a solid work ethic. They enjoy marking the "special moments of the day" (newly coined SMODs) without being put off by the required paperwork necessary for our services. They lead when necessary, and follow when asked. They have the ability to multi-task and identify priorities while maintaining a cheerful and genuine spirit with the people we serve.

The position offers up to 35 hours per week with the opportunity to seek overtime in our residential programs. This program serves our clients Mon-Fri 12:30pm-7:00pm.

Successful candidates will have:

* a high school diploma or GED

* be able to lift, push, and pull 75 pounds consistently throughout the shift

* have the ability to relate effectively with the people we serve

* be able to respond to crisis situations

* be able to meet agency driving requirements with a valid driver's license and a 2-year clean driving history

* A criminal background check is required.

PAY: Starting at $11.25/Hr

BENEFITS: Full-time employees get 100% medical, dental and vision coverage, a matched 401k, generous paid time off and professional development opportunities.
