We have invested heavily in environmental controls and process modifications to improve our environmental performance. These investments include $30 million for oxygen delignification in 1993, $35 million for bleaching modifications in 2000, and $1.5 million for hazardous air pollutant control systems in 2006. Cascade Pacific Pulp, LLC produces a wide range of pulp products tailored to production of every kind of paper. Used in paper and board grades from cardboard boxes to surgical applications, our pulp is sold to paper makers all over the world.
Our pulp is produced from lumber production residuals, using state of the art technology and modern equipment, while maintaining our environment.
Our products are based on the wood species Douglas fir, Western Hemlock, and Western Red Cedar. We also make pulps with fibers reclaimed from the waste stream, designated as “urban wood". These sources include fiber waste streams normally destined for landfill disposal or combustion disposal.

Oregon Gold™
Oregon Gold is a high strength Douglas fir based pulp, ideal for newsprint reinforcement, printing and writing papers, tissue, filter grades, bleached board, and white top liner board. It is produced with high brightness and cleanliness and our strict quality controls ensure product uniformity.
White Gold™
White Gold is a blend of fibers with a unique wide fiber length distribution, ideal for formation enhancement. This pulp has good strength, high brightness and cleanliness and has applications in printing and writing papers, tissue, bleached board, white top liner board.
Green Gold™
Green Gold is a certified post consumer waste pulp and various blend grades with post consumer waste. This pulp is stronger than typical waste paper based recycle pulps, with none of the contamination found in recycle pulp grades, such as optical brightener, stickies, etc. It is bright, clean and strong and has applications in printing and writing, tissue, and board grades.
Unbleached
Our unbleached grades are very high strength Douglas fir based pulps with paper and board applications in cement board, liner board, filter grades, saturating grades, and specialty decorative grades.

In 1988 Craig Saxton and Dawn Sandnes decided to start their own business. At the time, Craig worked in foodservice management; Dawn, in retail management. Their goal was to create a successful foodservice operation serving the great food Dawn created in her home kitchen, make it fresh everyday, and serve it efficiently in a pleasant environment. An underlying goal was to create a successful business based on limited operating hours, allowing themselves and their future employees a more balanced work week.
The culmination of their quest was the opening of the first Specialty's Cafe & Bakery in San Francisco's financial district on March 15, 1988. Nestled within an 800 square foot retail space in a high-rise office complex, Craig and Dawn and five employees started baking and selling breads, pastries, cookies, handmade sandwiches and fresh salads. With limited capital, used equipment, no sign, while operating limited hours, by the end of the first year their annualized sales volume was in excess of $1 million.
Today, after 18-years of successful operation, Specialty's Cafe & Bakery is a highly respected foodservice company with 16 bakery-cafes in the San Francisco and Seattle markets. The typical Specialty's Cafe & Bakery is located in an urban business district or suburban business center, and operates 5-days per week during the morning, noontime and afternoon hours. Most locations target takeout and delivery customers and feature limited seating. The focus is the food: fresh baked breads, cookies and pastries, plus handmade sandwiches, homemade soups and fresh salads.

PCCNG began publishing Tacoma Monthly in 1987. In 1994, we began publishing each week and thus changed the paper’s name to Tacoma Weekly, which comes out every Thursday.
The newspaper has always been a free publication. It is distributed inside hundreds of businesses and public spaces in the Tacoma area. The paper underwent a major redesign in the summer of 2001. We switched from a tabloid format to a broadsheet format. This gave us considerable more space, allowing us to split the paper into two sections.
PCCNG launched the Fife Free Press, which is published every other week, in August 2003. It is distributed in various public locations in Fife and is also mailed to every business and residential address within the city limits of Fife, free of charge.
In January 2004, we started the Milton-Edgewood Signal, which is published every other week as well. It is also distributed free of charge to public locations in Milton and Edgewood.

When Armstrong VW was purchased from Don Armstrong in 1986, it was Armstrong Buick. Buicks were sold here by Mr. Armstrong dating back to the 1950's. The Freeman family liked the way Mr. Armstrong did business, and when he put his company up for sale, the Freeman’s jumped at the opportunity.

A History of Fieldwork
In 1980 Creative Research Associates, a marketing research firm in Chicago spawned by Saul Ben-Zeev, a pioneer in qualitative research, decided that it was time for focus group facilities to move out of suburban basements and into the world of business. That year they opened Chicagoland Field Services, the first of what was to become a premier chain of 17 focus group facilities scattered around the US: Fieldwork, inc.
By today's standards that facility was modest, two suites with a small recruiting room and an even smaller office, but the concept was essentially complete – the hosting of qualitative research was no longer going to be a cottage industry – everything from recruiting to viewing, show and tell, documentation and ambiance was designed by seasoned moderators with a business purpose in mind and a commitment to using the best of modern technologies and procedures to arrive at a productive research experience.
Over the next 25 years, Fieldwork grew horizontally and vertically. Here are a few milestones:
1980 – Chicagoland Field Services was opened on the North side of Chicago – Real food (and M&M's) were introduced to the back room replacing the ubiquitous deli tray replete with yesterday's array of fruits and meats.
1980 – 2007 – Fieldwork goes from beta to rho – 17 first class facilities in or adjacent to Atlanta, New York (2), Boston, Minneapolis, Chicago (4), Denver, Dallas, Phoenix (2), Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle (2). All but the newest facilities have been rebuilt at least once since their inception. All are regularly updated in terms of décor, technology and cheer.
1996 – C&R creates an 85 seat, CATI driven phone center. The center is folded into the Fieldwork domain by virtue of being a fielding enterprise befitting Fieldwork's charter. In addition to conducting survey studies, the Fieldwork Quantwork is increasingly useful as a recruiting center for large-scale projects done under Fieldwork auspices.

Henry Carstens was the founder and owned the company until 1916, at which time he went into receivership and control transferred to the Dexter Horton Bank (which became Seafirst Bank and is now Bank of America).

A former employee of Puget Sound Tent, George Schaffer, was hired as general manager when he returned from fighting in World War I. Schaffer soon purchased the company, owning and operating it until the 1962 World’s Fair opened in Seattle. In that time the company was consistently successful, particularly during World War II when Schaffer negotiated large contracts to produce tents and tarps for the U.S. military.
Schaffer sold the company to Albert Cox and Robert Campbell in 1962. Cox had worked for the company since 1940 and managed operations. Campbell joined the company in 1961 and oversaw sales and administration.
Scott Campbell, the son of Robert Campbell, purchased the business from the partnership on January 1, 1984. Since then, the company has averaged 17% annual growth highlighted by the following activities:
•In 1985, Scott acquired Seattle Tent & Fabric Products, which was established in 1897, and was the largest competitor of Puget Sound Tent & Awning. The Rainier Wall Tent, first sold in 1897 by Seattle Tent, served as the inspiration for changing our name to Rainier Industries.
•Camp Lewis Tent & Awning, which was established in 1911, was acquired in 1993.
•In 1994, Olympic Sign was acquired, solidifying Rainier’s expansion into the sign and graphics industry.
•In 1995, operations were moved to our 72,000 square foot facility in Tukwila, Washington.
•Highflying Banners, a company specializing in Sunbrella appliquéd banners, was acquired in 2002.
•Later in 2002, Rainier entered into a joint venture with Display Products, a company specializing in visual merchandising and digital wall coverings. That joint venture is known as Rainier Displays.
•In 2003, we continued to expand in 2004 with some exciting growth:
◦The purchase of Nesting Bird Yurts
◦The purchase of the Markham Company in Orlando, Florida
◦An acquisition of Barrett Windows rigid window patent
◦An acquisition of EGE Sun Systems’ retail awning business
•We moved into our 140,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility in July of 2008.
•Rainier acquired Wave Guide Technologies in 2008 and began manufacturing retractable screen systems.
•2009 started with the acquisition of Sunblockers NW, a screen and awning retailer in the Seattle marketplace and also the aquisition of The Big Print, a large format digital printing company also based in Seattle and well recognized for their Biographix™ product line.
