Stanley C. Kennedy founded Kennedy Cleaning and Decorating in 1950. The company performed janitorial services for many of the downtown Portland commercial buildings. History and Philosophy
Persons with handicapped conditions have the same needs as their non-handicapped peers. Whatever the nature or origin of the disability, their fundamental rights are the same as their fellow citizens of the same age. In addition, all persons, no matter how severe their handicaps, are capable of growth and adaptation. Therefore, they need respect, encouragement and recognition of their rights to be provided the maximum opportunity for development and growth through programs which hasten the process of social integration, and also affirm basic rights and freedoms, individuality and feelings of personal worth and dignity.
Tahoma house is located at 4202 South 64th Street in the South Tacoma area. The residence is conveniently situated on a bus line, and near shopping centers, theaters, restaurants, churches, library and the post office. Our site provides maximum opportunity for social participation with the community in addition to opportunities for training where residents will utilize their skills.
The residence accommodates living space for eight persons with a landscaping plan that provides for outdoor recreation. The building has been constructed in conformity with all fire prevention requirements and the safe and health requirements for group homes in the State of Washington. The home is designed to accommodate wheelchair individuals.
Tahoma House is operated by Lakewood Group Homes, a nonprofit organization founded in March 1979 for the purpose of developing group homes for the developmentally disabled. The home was built by a grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development and will receive Section 8/202 money.
